Lateral Thinking

I feel like I’m in a slump creatively speaking lately. Need to update my portfolio which hasn’t had any love since 2007, get back to doing experiments, and overall do something creative.

Read this wonderful essay from the website of a book called Never Sleep which talks about the disconnect between transitioning from design student to design professional. Undecided whether to get this book, but that essay is pretty interesting. It suggests totally forgetting our biases, because we automatically try to solve problems based on what we already inherently know. Which isn’t bad in itself, but it prevents us from trying oddball, far-off,bizarre and ultimately original solutions.

To try to get myself into lateral thinking more often, whenever I start brainstorming something, i’ll hit up Wikipedia’s random article link and see where that takes me. Happy randomness all.
